SSUK have been lucky enough to work in Partnership with Glasgow Life and McLaughlin & Harvey LTD on the £35 million renovation of the city’s historic Kelvin Hall.

This is a project that will see the company supply, install, and maintain a range of AV equipment in their world class sports facility which is being developed in conjunction with a wider “Museum Quarter” project that will see Kelvin Hall also house the world famous Glasgow University Hunterian Museum and the National Library of Scotland.

Glasgow Life will be utilising a variety of equipment in the sports halls, dance studios and general circulation areas of the iconic B-listed building which sits opposite Kelvingrove Art Gallery. Specifically, SSUK will be installing Tannoy loudspeakers and subwoofers in order to provide industry leading audio clarity for the fitness classes and large sporting events which are scheduled to be taking place there. The speakers will be controlled by an AMX touchscreen which will utilise a custom designed interface, whilst the audio signals will be processed by Symetrix Digital Signal Processors.

Aside from the audio equipment supplied to the building, SSUK will also be supplying and installing a Onelan digital signage solution throughout the building. This signage will allow Glasgow Life and their partners within the historic renovation to display a variety of informative messages such as historical information about the building, wayfinding information and feature key museum pieces from their collections.

Further to these signage solutions, SSUK is also custom developing interactive and non-interactive content to further enhance user interaction within the building. The hardware will consist of LG commercial display screens and Iiyama interactive touch screens. This combination of custom content created by SSUK’s content partners One Media and the commercial screens will mean that the building is as user friendly as possible in order for the wide variety of visitors to get as much enjoyment as possible out of their experience there.

The redevelopment of Kelvin Hall is due to be completed in August 2016 and is being touted by many as being a world leading facility with the best museum district in the UK outside of London.

“With Kelvingrove Museum and Art Gallery across the road and the nearby Riverside Museum, Glasgow’s riverside and west end area will become a cultural corridor from the Clyde to Kelvingrove for academia and tourism, to rival South Kensington in London which is home to the V&A, the Science Museum and the Natural History Museum.”
