Operated by East Dunbartonshire Council, Allander Leisure Centre is a flagship leisure destination serving the local community through sport, fitness, wellbeing and specialist support services. As part of the development of the new facility, a comprehensive AV solution was required across multiple environments, helping create a modern, engaging and accessible experience for visitors while supporting staff in the day-to-day operation of the building.

Advise

Working closely with East Dunbartonshire Council, the design team and wider project stakeholders from an early stage, SSUK helped shape a joined-up AV strategy for the entire facility. The project required different environments to serve different audiences, from fitness enthusiasts and leisure users to visitors accessing specialist support services. Particular consideration was given to ease of use, accessibility and ensuring the technology would enhance the user experience throughout the building.

Plan

A carefully structured solution was developed to support each area of the leisure centre while maintaining a consistent user experience throughout the building. This included digital signage and background music in public areas, immersive audio-visual experiences within fitness studios, sensory technology for the Adult Resource Centre and centralised touchscreen controls to simplify day-to-day operation. Working alongside the wider construction team, the installation was phased to align with the building programme and ensure seamless integration with other systems.

Deliver

SSUK delivered AV systems throughout the facility, creating engaging and easy-to-use environments across a wide range of spaces. Public areas benefited from digital signage and background audio, while studios were equipped with high-impact lighting, sound and video systems capable of supporting everything from energetic fitness classes to more relaxed wellbeing activities. Within the Adult Resource Centre, specialist sensory equipment and a dedicated sensory pool experience were developed in partnership with Premier Solutions, creating a highly inclusive environment tailored to the needs of users. Building-wide touchscreen control systems were also installed, providing staff with simple and intuitive management of key AV functions.

Support

Following completion, SSUK continued to support the facility, ensuring systems remained operational and staff were able to make full use of the technology installed throughout the building.
