Operated by Royal Yacht Enterprises, The Royal Yacht Britannia and Fingal are two of Scotland's most distinctive visitor destinations. Britannia, once the Royal Family's floating residence, is now one of the UK's leading visitor attractions, while Fingal has been transformed from a former Northern Lighthouse Board vessel into a luxury floating hotel. As part of the continued investment in both destinations, Royal Yacht Enterprises sought technology that would enrich the visitor experience while supporting the day-to-day operation of these unique venues.
Advise
Working closely with the team at Royal Yacht Enterprises, SSUK helped identify how technology could enhance storytelling, improve visitor engagement and support the operation of multiple spaces in the visitor centre and aboard Fingal. From immersive displays within the new visitor centre to discreet audio systems for hospitality environments, every recommendation was guided by the experience visitors would have rather than the technology itself.
Plan
Each area required its own carefully considered solution while maintaining a consistent, high-quality experience throughout the venues. Working alongside architects, designers, and project managers, SSUK developed systems tailored to the unique requirements of the visitor centre, retail areas, event spaces and private dining facilities. This collaborative approach ensured the technology integrated seamlessly into the overall design without detracting from the heritage and character of the buildings.
Deliver
SSUK played a key role from the earliest stages of the project, delivering technology that has become an integral part of the visitor experience. At the new visitor centre, a striking LED wall, digital displays and an integrated audio system bring the story of The Royal Yacht Britannia to life through engaging video, imagery and sound.
\Across Fingal, we installed audio systems for the ballroom and restaurant spaces, videoconferencing technology within the private dining suite and an innovative live kitchen viewing system, allowing guests to watch the executive chef prepare their meal while hearing commentary throughout the experience. Fingal presented unique engineering challenges with its curved walls, cambered floors, portholes, and very few straight lines. We worked diligently to preserve the character and beautiful aesthetic of this historic vessel. Additional installations included audio systems and digital displays within the retail environment, creating a consistent experience across both venues.
Support
Royal Yacht Enterprises continues to benefit from SSUK's ongoing support and technical expertise. As both attractions evolve and visitor expectations continue to rise, we remain on hand to provide advice, implement enhancements and ensure the technology continues to deliver exceptional experiences for guests while supporting the day-to-day operation of these world-class destinations.
