Paisley Grammar School Community Campus is a major new £85.5 million education development delivered by Renfrewshire Council, replacing the school’s historic Glasgow Road building with a modern campus designed for up to 1,350 pupils.
The new school brings together teaching, sport, music, drama, performance and specialist learning facilities, and forms part of a wider programme of investment by the Council in the surrounding area and its education estate. We were appointed to deliver the audio visual technology throughout the campus, helping ensure the new spaces were ready to support teaching and learning from day one.
Advise
Working closely with Renfrewshire Council, we began by understanding how technology would be used across the new campus and what teachers and pupils would need from it day to day.
Building on product demonstrations delivered by SSUK and our manufacturing partners, we advised the Council on the most appropriate equipment for the different learning environments and how it could be used effectively in the classroom. The focus throughout was on practical, reliable technology that would support teaching without adding unnecessary complexity.
Plan
With a major construction programme underway and tight timescales to work within, careful coordination was essential.
Following sign-off from Renfrewshire Council, we worked with the construction team to programme our installation around the wider build. Our engineers completed a first-fix stage while rooms were still under construction, installing the required AV cabling and mounting infrastructure before returning once spaces were ready to install, configure, test and commission the equipment.
Deliver
Delivering large-format displays across a new school of this scale required considerable logistical planning.
The core installation included 72 75-inch Promethean ActivPanel 10 interactive displays, alongside Iiyama screens and Clevertouch commercial displays across teaching, specialist and communal spaces.
With each packaged 75-inch ActivPanel weighing around 61kg, deliveries had to be carefully coordinated with progress elsewhere on site. Equipment was brought in at the appropriate stage of the build, securely stored and moved into position when individual rooms were ready for final installation.
Our team then installed, connected, tested and commissioned the systems, liaising with the Council’s network team to integrate the AV equipment with the school’s wider infrastructure.
Support
Our work continued as the building moved from construction project to working school.
Ahead of opening, we provided demonstrations and training for teachers and other staff, covering everyday use of the new equipment, its software and features such as wirelessly casting content from devices including iPads.
And because Paisley Grammar forms part of our wider support relationship with Renfrewshire Council, that support continues long after handover. Through the Council-wide support agreement, SSUK remains on hand to help resolve issues, provide technical guidance and keep the technology performing as it should across the school.
That ongoing relationship is an important part of how we work: not simply delivering the installation, but supporting the people who rely on it once the building is live.
